My name is Trevor Dixon. I am a 4th generation farmer in the beautiful North Pennine dale of the River Tees.
Teesdale is famous for its spectacular scenery, hill farms and of course drystone walls, many of which date back to the 18th century.
I have built and repaired drystone walls on our farm since leaving school in the sixties, learning the skill from my father.
I started my craft business Dalestone Crafts in 1991 as a hobby, marketing miniature walls as “A Little Piece of the Dales”.
Each piece is as individual, made with stone cut from a local quarry and constructed in the same way as the large field walls. The only difference is the size and the fact that the miniatures have the stones glued together.
I am proud of the fact that many pieces of my work have found their way all over the world. In 2002 I had the privilege to present one of the miniatures to HRH The Prince of Wales.
I have recently diversified into building miniature houses and field barns as seen in the Northern Dales.
These can be made to your specifications, please contact me for further information.
Anoyther interesting line of my work are the 3D pictures. These are Dales scenes in a box frame with a stone wall in front producing a 3D effect.
Please contact me if you have a favourite photo you would like customising in this way.
If you would like to have a go at building a drystone wall, I run 'Have A Go' days where, under supervision, you can construct a real drystone wall on a working dales farm
Please contact me for further info.
